Jemima Puddleduck!

Este baberito lo he hecho todo a mano para Irene, la hija de mi amiga María José, que nació el pasado mes de junio...Al igual que el que le hice a su hermano Jesús, lleva bordado a punto de cruz uno de los personajes de Beatrix Potter.

I have made this little bib for Irene, my friend María José's daughter, who was born last June...Like the one I made for her brother Jesús, it has been cross-stitched with one of Beatrix Potter's characters.

Tarta sin azúcar - Sugar free cake

Esta es la tarta que le hice este fin de semana al abuelo de Alex por su 90 cumpleaños. Por dentro llevaba tres capas de bizcocho con chocolate entre medias, y todo el lateral iba recubierto de almendra picada.
Lo mejor: ¡qué no llevaba azúcar!
Como el abuelo de Alex no toma azúcar, en su lugar usé 100% xilitol natural para el bizcocho y la crema que lo recubre, y miel para la crema de chocolate.
¡Le encantó y al resto de la familia también!
This is the cake that I made at the weekend for Alex's grandad's 90th birthday. Inside, it had three layers of Victoria sponge with chocolate icing in between, and all around it was covered with ground walnuts.
The best part: it was sugar free!
As Alex's grandad doesn't eat sugar, instead I used 100% natural xylitol for the sponge and the icing, and honey for the chocolate icing.
He loved it and so did the rest of the family!

Mermelada de fresa - Strawberry jam

Este año hemos tenido una cosecha muy buena de fresas en la huerta, así que además de comerlas con nata y merengue casi todos los días, también nos han sobrado para hacer una mermelada muy rica. Los papelitos con los que he cubierto los tarros y las etiquetas son de Cath Kidston, y me los regaló mi amiga Patricia por mi cumpleaños.

We have had a very good strawberry crop this year, so as well as eating 'Eton Mess' nearly every day, we also had spare ones to make a very nice jam. The paper covers and the labels are from Cath kidston, and they were a present from my friend Patricia on my birthday.

Este juego tan gracioso de delantal, gorro y paño se lo he hecho a Nikola, la hija de mi amiga Kasia, por su cuarto cumpleaños. Lo he hecho sin patrón, simplemente siguiendo unas instrucciones que tenía, así que no estaba muy segura de la talla...pero cuando se lo he dado hoy y se lo ha probado, ¡la quedaba perfecto!

I have made this cute baking set (apron, chef hat & tea towel) for Nikola, my friend Kasia's daughter, on her fourth birthday. I have made it without a template, just following some instructions that I had, so I wasn't sure about the size...but when I gave it to her today and she tried, it was perfect!

Conserva agridulce de ruibarbo - Rhubarb chutney

Este es el primer año que he hecho esta conserva, y la verdad es que ha sido más fácil de lo que pensaba...Hay que dejarla macerar un par de meses, así que aún tenemos que esperar para poder probarla...El ruibarbo, por supuesto, de nuestra huerta.
El chutney es una especie de confitura agridulce que se elabora con frutas y verduras cocidas en vinagre, especias muy aromáticas y azúcar. Va muy bien para acompañar el pan tostado, el queso o la carne fría entre otras cosas.
This is the first year that I have made chutney, and I must say it has been easier than I thought. It needs to matured for a couple of months, so we still have to wait to try it...The rhubarb, of course, was from our allotment.

Camisa multiusos - Multi-use shirt

Esta camisa de Alex (que un día trajo de la oficina con una gran mancha de tinta en la manga...), gracias a unos arreglillos, se ha convertido ahora en mi nueva bata de trabajos manuales...
Para ello, corté el cuello y los puños, y con ellos hice unos bolsillos. También quité los botones que traía y en su lugar puse unos automáticos por debajo y unos bonitos botones acrílicos de decoración por encima. Finalmente, añadí una bonita cinta decorativa que había comprado en la mercería...El resultado: ¡una bata muy original!
Thanks to a few adjustments, Alex's shirt (which one day he brought home from the office with a big ink stain in one of the arms...) is now my crafts overalls...
To achieve that, I cut the collar and the cuffs, and I used them to make some pockets. I also removed the original buttons and replaced them with some snap fasteners underneath and some pretty acrylic buttons on top just for decoration. Finally, I added some beautiful tape that I had bought in the haberdashery shop...The result: quite original overalls!
